Football is always delivering surprises on the pitch as much as in the transfer business. Is Orlando Pirates’ Patrick Maswanganyi returting to Europe?
In case you were unaware, the 26-year-old Maswanganyi arrived at the Sea Robbers via Portugal.
The journey started at the Stars of Africa Academy in Johannesburg before “Tito” joined a club called Oliveirense in Portugal.
He later moved to Académica’s U23 in the same country before returning home to SuperSport United.
According to Soccer Laduma, the Liga 2 club is interested in re-signing the Orlando Pirates superstar. The report says negotiations have started over a R40 million deal.
“It’s no longer just about an inquiry. It’s about negotiations now,” a source told the outlet. “They really want him back in Portugal. They are looking at the progress he has made and they are happy to bring him back to Portugal.
It will all depend on what Pirates are looking at or if UD Oliveirense can afford what Pirates will be asking for Maswanganyi.
“The only issue that is there now is the R40m that the club has put on Maswanganyi’s head. You know he is one of the best players now in the country (of South Africa), and if the club wants that amount, then UD Oliveirense should meet that or make it even better than that.
But since they are believed to have opened up negotiations, it will all depend on their offer that they table to Pirates,” an additional source stated.
